Three words that are made for summer…strawberry, basil, and cocktail. While my basil plant is fairly small, it produces more basil than I can squeeze into salads, sandwiches, and pasta. So, after discovering I had fresh strawberries that were begging to be used on a hot Friday afternoon, a basil cocktail sounded very refreshing. You could easily use mint in this recipe instead of basil but I assure you, you will not be disappointed.
strawberry basil cocktail
makes one drink but can easily be multiplied
Ingredients
4-5 fresh strawberries, tops removed
6 basil leaves
pinch of sugar (could also use simply syrup if you have some made)
2 oz vodka or white rum
one lemon or lime, juiced then sliced
soda water
basil leaves for garnish
Method
In a cocktail shaker muddle strawberries, basil, sugar and a slice from the lemon or lime you juiced.
Add ice, vodka, lemon/lime juice and shake until chilled.
Strain liquid into glass over ice. Top with soda water and garnish with additional lemon/lime slices and basil.
Quite refreshing, but be forewarned, they go down easily!
Tastes as good as it looks! I’ll take another!
Yum!!! Will be making them this weekend!!!
